not gonna write a whole essay properly formatted etc about it bc i fr cannot be arsed right now but @limonenelieu said to me about reading HAL as a gay man in 2001: A Space Odyssey and i feel like it's broken my brain open, i love it so fucking much, and i wanted to share thoughts

so their initial point was that HAL's voice and manner of speech, particularly his accent and his inflection (esp his neat and clipped enunciation) reminded them of gay-coding discussions in like, disney films and in other movies with gay-coded villains

i agree, and would also add that just the whole idea of like. he is a man (he has a man's voice, they call him he, they think of him as a man) who has literally been programmed to show the Correct Emotions and portray a response explicitly to make his other crewmembers feel more comfortable and at-ease with him.

also the way he speaks and like... this thing HAL does where he asks permission several times before he speaks - lewis compared it to the initial scene in Inglorious Basterds where the n/zi officer is asking permission of the farmer to do things like light a cigarette and sit down etc, and the point is that its the farmer's territory and the officer is a guest in it, but the officer has all the power, and it lays their power dynamic very bare while destabilising the farmer a bit

asking dave if it's okay if he asks a question, then saying it's fine if dave doesn't answer, then finally asking if dave has regrets about the mission - and before dave gives his own answer, being "vulnerable" and saying he had his own anxieties at first

HAL is programmed to make the crewmembers comfortable with him, but this specific manner of making them comfortable by like, asking dave a question in such a way that's really deferential, and makes dave feel like he's leading the conversation or is "in charge" of it?

like it's so similar to me to like... when a wife in the 50s or 60s is asking her husband a question, and she has to couch it in certain ways so he doesn't perceive it as a challenge of his authority or a criticism on his actions, bc she's a woman and he's a man, she's the husband and he's the wife - except in this case like, HAL is a robot (and therefore inherently lesser) and dave is human

like obvs there's so many films where AI is presented as female-coded, and many ppl have written about the politics of techbros' attraction to robots as woman-coded and particularly like, the desire to recreate slave labour and especially forms of slave labour with not just racial tones but also sexualised and misogynistic ones (within the domestic sphere and also re: sex work), and all the anxieties that that comes with?

the techbro's fear of robots fighting back is in many ways a manifestation of their fear of the social order as they see it being overturned - on the one hand, they create robots with sexy or sultry voices, they put them in female bodies they're attracted to, they want a robot that's pretty and subservient in the right way, a robot that will take all the abuse a woman wouldn't these days because of the dreaded feminism, but also that they're allowed to abuse because she's a woman but we can both agree that she isn't human in the same way he is, a man

and obvs those thoughts are further pushed when the sexy robots are given racialised bodies - when they are Black, when they are East Asian, etc, in ways that make them more desirable but also racialise their position in gender roles, and further like, fetishistic views of them etc

(so Her is obviously "falling in love" with a robot, but a film like Ex Machina explores these anxieties far more explicitly)

in 2001, HAL is a man, and he's doing all the labour that the pretty stewardesses were doing on the space station - he's not pretty and he's not right in front of the crewmembers like the stewardesses were, but like. i remember not liking the tone frank used when he was ordering HAL to lower and raise his neckrest when he was laid back on the leather bed, and how it felt demeaning in a way? in many ways because HAL has a personality

things like HAL asking to see the sketches and the idea of this robot taking an interest in art, but also like...

so HAL is a singular eye, right? his character is mostly communicated in the form of his gaze, and his eye represents the whole of his character and his personality, and i was thinking about how for a lot of men at the same seeing 2001: a space odyssey, like

many of them would be veterans, and almost all of them would know a military or naval veteran - and fears of homosexuality in that period were often not of the fruitier, more obvious gay dudes, but like, the perceived anonymity of homosexuality, and homosexuals as a dangerous, hidden underground that seeks to predate on and "turn" or corrupt heterosexual men

the idea that although you might not know his name or his face or have any idea who he is, a homosexual (or multiple homosexuals) might be among you. he might be watching you exercise, or watching you sleep, or taking an interest in you, and you will not know. many gay men obviously fear being looked at as sexual objects, being consumed via the gaze, the way that they look at and consume women

esp bc the stewardesses are presented as similar to the flight hostesses on aeroplanes and w the 60s being such a big period for like, the luxury of this beautiful woman who waits on you hand and foot and whom you can look at and touch and harass and whatever, and she's a mother/wife away from home to comfort you while travelling

the men don't have that on the jupiter mission bc it's not luxury, it's more sparse - instead of a beautiful woman, they have HAL, and instead of a beautiful woman for them to look at, HAL is constantly looking at them

even stuff like HAL reading their lips and the close focus of the camera on their lips as they move?

the language used to discuss HAL is very reminiscent to me too of the ways in which ppl of the period discussed homosexuality - his malfunction, his needing to be corrected, the way dave and frank discuss how his nature has become corrupted and they need to neutralise him, but know tht talking about him where he will hear it will have him resist?

and ultimately what dave does to him is analagous to a lobotomy, something that many gay men of the period experienced as a way to correct what was perceived as a sexual perversion

like it's not about whether HAL was attracted to frank or dave, bc ultimately the fear of gay men is not the fear of a gay man wanting to fuck you specifically - the first and foremost fear is that he is wrong, incorrect, inverse, unnatural, in a way that's unspeakable and is not just about sex, bc it's about his fundamental existence as a man, or a robot you've decided you want to be a man, and the way he's incorrectly fulfilling that role

okay so it took me a while to answer this but i finally found the words to so here goes; yeah i do know, and i totally understand if you don't ship it, neither do i, but there's nothing i can do about it?

they're allowed, so long as they don't harm people, to do whatever they want on their own platforms. and before you ask me if i support *ncest, would you actually ask someone if they support toxic relationships and murder whenever they ship two unhealthy killers with mental problems? because that's funnily enough what most people do around here! you can say it's not the same, and that they're romanticizing it, but i can personally detach myself from fiction enough to realize that while this concept depicted in their art shouldn't be recreated in real life, that doesn't mean they actually engage or support people that do that irl- they asked zu the same question so many times, and frog doesn't either and i've known gayfish for three years! you're well within your right to stop associating with them or distance yourself from their content but i myself won't.

i know fiction affects reality to a degree, don't twist my words please, but if you're too young to consume that kind of content with a nuanced perspective or is triggered/affected by it then as long as they tag their content properly then you can unfollow, block and move on. i have a habit of following and reblogging people's works before looking at their bios and before i know it find myself having to choose between two sides i don't belong to and i frankly don't want to! anti this or proship that- in this online era you have to adapt by keeping your cool and curating your own online experience and viewing people in black and whites is stressful, painful and dangerous for everyone involved. i don't even reblog the content you probably have a problem with, and i'm honestly still scared of the response i'll get-

i will not blame or hate whoever unfollows or blocks me for this, it's to be expected, but please don't think about it like some bad vs good guys dilemma? sometimes thought provoking morally grey ambiguous stories with messed up characters spark more positive discussion and healing than people looking into it because they suffer from the same delusions and want a justification-

like realistically, in my blog, most ppl here are basically shipping two literal skeletons with magic in their bones who are sometimes almost the exact copy of one another, and who theoretically have a very similar dna, and sometimes they make shipkids, which, if you know anything about *ncest, is one of the main reasons why you shouldn't bang your siblings - mostly from a moral standpoint because that's so gross i can't even think of it, but also because any offspring would suffer greatly from physical and mental diseases hidden in their genetic code- like. you could argue it's not the same but it's sancest for a reason. and even when they're widely different sanses, you wouldn't think fell x sans is wrong (at least in this specific community) but really we've all just gotten numb to how weird that sounds. trust me, there's a reason we don't talk about our ships to outsiders HHH

TL,DR: so while i greatly encourage you to block people and content you don't want to see/associate with, including me! i hope i made it clear why i, personally, don't care about dreammare and whoever ships it.

This one is actually probably p nonviolent bc I don’t think this is a very controversial take round these parts! But definitely all of Finn’s romantic plot lines. I can sort of make an argument abt how they reflect the part of his character that’s really invested in the fairytale idea of being a hero which implies being the romantic lead

(I lean toward hcing him as aroace but don’t feel super strongly abt it, but that or gay or otherwise not into women also adds a comphet element— regardless it’s an interesting parallel with lots of characters but in particular Bonnie, who very clearly has lived her life according to rules she gathered and interpreted about who and what a princess is AND what a girl is. Very gendered so for Finn there’s a bit of toxic masculinity involved in his romantic pursuits and also his inclination toward violence in the earlier seasons. Plus the whole overarching theme of rebuilding society post-post-apocalypse and most of the characters kind of forcing themselves into a mold using what they know and don’t know about past societies combined with how their own has interacted w them.

Comphet also obviously parallel with Bonnie continuing to call Mr. CP her boyfriend etc etc etc, but also maybe more relevant— I hc Marceline as bi so I dont think being attracted to men is compulsory for her but still think heteronormativity is very relevant to her story & I think the same would be true for Finn regardless of orientation. Actually very similar for both of them subconsciously recreating heteronormative relationships which are so reflective of their own specific family structures— Marcy drawn to the Hunson in Ash and dare I say the Simon and the Betty AND the Elise in Bonnie? + Finn drawn to both the Minerva and the Margaret in Bonnie and FP and, to an extent, HW too. Caregivers who are also leaders and answer to no one. HW is a little less officially this but I’d argue that as a female character heavily associated with both nature and protection she is inherently at least a little bit mom-adjacent-coded or something idk what I’m saying but yeah that! Digression lol.)

BUT way overdone even if that was the intention. A lot of that time could’ve been spent on him and Jake and BMO doing silly shit or like expanding on his relationships with Jermaine and Margaret and Joshua and Fern and the humans etc etc. and/or more depth for the love interests themselves. Ofc I always want more Bonnie and there’s a lot more to dig into with FP (and the two of them together for that matter!) & also HW has such a cool design and she’s interesting but I feel like I don’t know much about her and had she and Finn had a different relationship there may have been more room for her to develop. It feels like fan service though I’m guessing now it’s not actually in service of most ppl who are still really big fans. Maybe more so network service lol.

Also sad that some of those songs (all gummed up slaps too hard) and episodes are really good/funny imo I wish they were about something else 😭 (too young is extremely important to me I refuse to discount it but I obvs understand why a lot of ppl want to it’s super frustrating/disappointing.)

Idk) so I just wanted to say that you’re right and you should say it. My whole life I’ve appeared more androgynous bc I simply do not care about dolling myself up, and the ONLY ppl who’ve misgendered me are other queer ppl who see my short hair and small tits and assume I’m nonbinary, EVEN at work where I have my pronouns on my name badge. and I STILL overhear my queer coworkers using they/them to refer to me even though I’ve told them several times my pronouns are she/her. Idk if it’s misplaced transmisogyny (I’m a cis woman) or if their brains are too small to comprehend a woman not shaving her body hair or wearing makeup but it’s SO annoying

omg yeah i did NOT mean that, i wasn't even talking about transition or trans men at all, that post was actually made with gay women in mind and seeing some stuff on here and how they seem to not have unlearned misogyny as much as they think. every talk about misogyny gets derailed because at the end of the day people don't want to accept the fact that being lgbt does not automatically erase learned misogyny, and in some cases it actually becomes a weapon to be misdirected at the ones who are too aware of it which is, usually, lesbians. people are STILL very attached to gender stereotypes but in this case it's that they desperately seek the absence and opposite of it, and through that, without real personal healing, they only manage to recreate it. they also jump from one extreme to another, when the reality is that we live in a deeply misogynistic world, have misogynistic views of women that we need to unlearn, and that doesn't mean some people don't want to transition or that wanting to transition is not "real" or bad. these two can coexist. not only do they coexist, but both unlearning misogyny and unlearning transphobia are directly benefitting eachother since they have similar roots. insane thought for some. also im so sorry and i hope your situation gets better and more respectful 😞

I FELL ASLEEP BUT IM BACK. ok so the first thing about the chilumi yuri vision is…while obviously of course I think Childe’s sexuality is based less on appearance or gender and far more on how much he wants to fight someone in hand to hand combat as a form of quality time, and therefore a part of it is him going “wow I love the kind of woman that can kick my ass” about Lumine that some ppl do…but also I have elaborations on this

I think Lumine works for Childe because if he reaaaaally wants to fight her and is like “pleeeaaase Traveler i havent seen you in forever and want to catch up with you on what my siblings are up to over a friendly spar, i’ll even forgo using a weapon and/or tie a hand behind my back so I’m at a disadvantage if that would be more fun (I would definitely find it more fun). Pleaaaaaseee?”, Lumine is down to fight him. So they do, and at some point after said recreational sparring session they both got really into, Childe is like sprawled out on the ground with a bloody nose looking very emotionally enriched by this experience, and looks over to Lumine (who also has a bloody nose and is brushing the dust off herself while chilling) and is like “heyyyy Traveler. Question” and Lumine is like “yeah”, so Childe is like “do you think that I could be a #girl to you”

And Lumine, who is very used to having to pause to process Childe saying peculiar things especially about himself and his own self image, is like “please elaborate”, to which Childe goes on a tangent explaining he doesn’t exactly mind being viewed as a guy or a girl per-say because his ultimate ideal gender is A Well Crafted and Cool Looking Weapon, Lumine’s Cool Gender has given him much to think about, and you know he would personally love to be girl best friends with someone

The key factor here is Lumine is actually hilariously not unfamiliar with accidentally causing Sapphic Awakenings in other genshin characters, because sometimes said awakenings come less in the form of “oh girls are pretty” and more-so seeing a lesbian with cool gender (in this case Lumine) and being like wow 1) I am gay 2) I want whatever she has going on gender wise here so bad it’s unreal. Usually when I say this people think it exclusively applies to the women in thr genshin cast, but no…..you arent gender impacting hard enough. Childe is also included here. If you are me you will understand perfectly. He’s like if a weapon was either a man or a woman. He’s like, 110% coolest big brother ever but also in the context of Chilumi here is Lumine’s girlfriend. Is Childe the local white boy? Yes. this a gay relationship? Yes. Is it yuri? Also yes. Does Childe specifically ID as sapphic? No/it depends. Is Lumine a woman? No, she is simply a lesbian with cool gender. Chilumi yuri transcends the gender binary and confuses absolutely everyone around them for several reasons

So in response to Childe’s gender tangent Lumine is like “well Childe we can be girl best friends if you really want” and Childe is like OMG….really? And Lumine is like yeah sure go for it👍 Which starts the most bizarre situationship known to man. Again. It confuses absolutely everyone for several reasons. Neither Childe or Lumine are really looking to pursue a longterm committed romantic relationship or anything (Childe isn’t in the most stable headspace for one + Lumine just isn’t interested in it) so instead what we get is Childe walking around looking like he got mauled by a small beast and everyone’s like Dude what the hell happened to you and he’s like oh I just got back from a great date with my girlfriend ^__^ we hiked up one of the local trails and then fist fought each other in the woods before closing off the evening with me showing her how to wrestle large fish in the lake to eat them. And everyone turns to Lumine desperate for a proper explanation and she’s just like “yeah see I just think this is emotionally enriching for him. And for me. I’m kind of fascinated with his peculiar white boy and/or girl charm and tendency to say things only someone with under-diagnosed disorders would say. Solid dude. Get you a gf who can catch fish with his teeth you know” Which, of course, clears up absolutely nothing

Another factor here is Lumine isn't really saddled with fixing Childe's issues or anything she just treats him like a person and is very chill/accepting of him being “a little odd” sometimes, and this sort of presence is just good for Childe mentally IMO, bc I think it’s good for him to not have to swap between different facets of his identity (Ajax vs Tartagilia, for ex) and have people he can just be himself with in a more middle ground way. A lot of the time its just very silly but Lumine is probably someone Childe would feel more comfortable opening up to or at least trying to process his issues around. There’s a bit of a tragedy here where it genuinely could work well for them but Childe kind of struggles to connect with people as a person bc of his dissociation from his own personhood to cope with his trauma, and, of course, while I think Traveler enjoys forming meaningful emotional connections and is down with a lot of flings or casual relationships Lumine’s traveling lifestyle isn’t really suited for settling down for a committed stable one in the way that might work best for Childe, esp now when he’s still an active Harbringer

They work for each other and there’s a lot of good self realizations about identity they can glean from one another but their circumstances are always hovering over everything in the background. This is yuri to me

10 Reasons why you should watch 'Kipo and the age of Wonderbeasts'

I could be wrong, but I haven't seen anyone do one of these posts for Kipo yet, and I just love this show *clenches fist* SO DANG MUCH, so here we go 1. The Representation ALL of the main characters are poc, except for the two who are literal animals. One of the main characters is also gay, and straight up says "I'm gay" onscreen, which is a big thing for a kids show!! It's the first time I've ever seen it anyway and it made me super happy. *MINOR SPOILERS* He also gets a boyfriend in later seasons, and they're adorable!! *END OF MINOR SPOILERS* 2. It's Finished All three seasons are out, so you won't have to wait months for new content, or worry about it being cancelled (*cough* like Netflix has done to a LOT of good shows) ! U good probably binge it all in three days. Two if you skip out on sleep 3. The Character Development The character arcs on this show r so fucking *chefs kiss*. Seriously, this show had me emotionally attached to a giant monkey, A cat with an axe, A fucking frog in a suit and a godamn piano playing mandrill. And that's without even MENTIONING the main cast, or any of the human characters. 4. The jokes Hear me out ok. I know shows targeted at kids sometimes overdo the comedy side of things, and while Kipo is SOMETIMES (Sometimes. Only sometimes. ) guilty of that, I fucking LOVE this shows humour. The comedy creates a rlly good balance with the serious stuff, bc trust me, this show HURTS sometimes. But the jokes are genuinely funny and feel natural to the characters, and r done in a way that if you rewatch you'll be laughing at things u didn't Even Notice the first time around. 5. The Music The entire soundtrack fucking slaps. And all the scenes set to music are choosen so perfectly it never ever fails to make me Feel Things. The soundtracks to all three seasons r also on Spotify, so u can jam all u want 6. The Compelling and Unique story set up Picture this: it's hundreds of years into the future. Thousands maybe, I can't remember exactly. Most humans have long retreated underground to live in 'burrows' after something caused animals to mutate, making them essentially equal to humans in terms of brainpower. These 'Mutes' now rule the 'surface', and are sworn enimies of human kind (the feeling is mutal). These formidable threats include frogs in suits, big fluffy cats with bigger sharp axes, rock playing snakes, and a monkey trying to recreate the french aristocracy. One day a human girl is thrown out of her burrow after an attack. She's got pink hair. She's got next to no impulse control. And she's got the biggest fucking heart. Yeah. That's Kipo. 7. The Character design and Visual artistry The character designs are unique and fit each person perfectly. And sound like a furry but...ALL the mute designs r so fucking awesome, no exceptions. I'm no animation guru but the show is so visualy pleasing, from chase sequences with PERFECT choreography to all the pretty Colours, which r hands down one of my favourite parts abt the show. It's just. Ugh. It's so pretty to look at ok. And so visually engaging!! There's always more to look at wherever u look, it's like an 'I always feel understimulated' DREAM 8. The Voice Acting I know this can be said of a hell of a lot of shows, but the voice cast is amazing. So many lines are so Emotionally raw and believable, it rlly gets you convinced that the characters are real people. 9. The Emotional impact, even through to the finale Kipo has so many moments that Get To Me. I cried like three times during season three. While the show is fun and upbeat (and an instant serotonin booster for me) it rlly has its heavier moments, and boy does the angst hurt sometimes. This impact carries thru all the way to the last episode. I know we've all been there, when ur favourite shows ending dissapoints. When there's multiple seasons build up to the climax, and the last few episodes just feel...flat. Kipo is not that show. 10. It deserves more love I know the Internet loves calling anything and everything 'underrated', but seriously, it is. With the amout of good characters, good rep, and good episodes, Kipo's fanbase is TINY compared to other amazing shows, like She-ra for instance. Kipo deserves more hype!! And I, ofc, want more ppl to scream about it with. So uh. Yeah. Thanks for coming to my TED talk, go watch Kipo?

oh if this is who i think it is i’ve seen your blog and i’ve been hoping you would send this!!! juke truly is an excellent lad :)

gender- it may be starting to look like i think everyone is nonbinary. it’s not my fault you keep giving me nb characters. juke is transmasc and nonbinary!

sexuality- hmmmm...... my instinct is to say juke is Not Straight but idk if he’s gay or bi/pan. the only ppl i’ve seen him shipped with are teri and bobert, and since both of those are valid and interesting ships, i’m gonna go for bi.

OTP- juke and teri! teri is patient with juke when he has trouble expressing himself to her, and juke is patient with teri when she gets overwhelmed or anxious. i like to headcanon juke as a pretty decent artist, and maybe he would draw outfits for teri that she could recreate when she got dressed the next day! juke is pretty old-school when it comes to romance, and he likes to do things like bring her flowers if they go on a date, but if the flowers have thorns they can snag and tear teri’s arms or hands, so he’s always careful to bring her daisies or other harmless flowers. he makes her mixtapes and she choreographs little dances to them for fun. and once teri finds juke’s music to voice switch, the conversations they have are really deep and personal. sometimes juke will jokingly erase teri’s mouth or teri will jokingly switch juke off of his voice setting, but they would never do that to each other out of spite, just in fun when they playfully argue/debate, and they always make sure not to strand each other without a voice. neither of them is especially tough, but they’re both bffs with bobert, who makes sure they don’t get picked on or pushed around.

BroTP- bobert!!!! juke and bobert bond over being seen as more machine than human, and they open up to each other about their experiences navigating the world as part machine and part real person with feelings. juke stands up for bobert if people try to take advantage of his poor social skills, and bobert defends juke if things get physical. bobert also acts as a wingman, albeit a very straightforward one- “teri, would you like to go on a romantic outing with juke? he is hiding over there and hopes you will say yes.” juke makes mixtapes for bobert, too, and bobert often remixes them or makes mashups of the songs.

NoTP- i don’t think anyone actually ships this, but gumball. juke could maybe eventually become friends with gumball, but he wasn’t treated very well by him in his one episode, and i don’t see that working out even if they tried.

A fun dynamic they would have- i’m gonna take this opportunity to talk about the power trio that is juke, teri, and bobert all together. bobert never minds third wheeling, he’s just glad to be part of the squad. juke is obviously the most musical of the three, but with his musical inclination, teri’s affinity for dance and jpop/kpop, and bobert’s mixing skills, i like to think they form a little band. teri is their singer and the (adorable) face of the group, bobert mixes a backing track ahead of time, and juke plays the track and writes all the music. they’re pretty underground and it’s just for fun, but they really enjoy it! also, teri tries to convince her friends to join cheer squad, but they both prefer to stay on the sidelines supporting her. the fact that nobody was able to find juke’s switch implies to me that he’s a pretty lonely guy, and he probably doesn’t live with his parents, so what if he lives with bobert? teri visits the two of them all the time, and when juke wants to spend time with her alone, he picks her up or goes to her place. bobert is like a brother to juke and a best friend to teri, and he will physically fight anyone who hurts or bullies them. luckily this doesn’t happen much, especially once people figure out the consequences. i also think juke and ocho could be friends! ocho can be a little intense and impatient, and juke is more the fun but sensitive type, so when they hang out it’s usually at an arcade or playing tag team video games with ocho on offense and juke following his lead. juke has met all of ocho’s uncles and honestly isn’t too impressed, which makes their friendship easy and ocho more comfortable and trusting around juke.

Any other fun headcanons or things i wanted to elaborate on- the second i saw juke i fell in love with his design!!! he’s so cute and it’s obvious his intentions are always good. it also seems that he grew up pretty lonely because of the language barrier, so he never forgets to treasure his friends and girlfriend. he’s special because i don’t think loneliness turned him bitter, just a little shy and sometimes self conscious. but once he finds his people, he really opens up and gives everything he can to them, in terms of affection and fun little surprises like mixtapes, surprise parties on special occasions, and other homebrew gifts.

i should also throw it out there real quick that i am kin w/ infinite, n this is actually one of my two canons (both of which are my own aus lmfao wow). i didn't go into it expecting it to be but sfsfsgdfs here we are ig!! for that reason it's got extra importance to me n this definitely contributes to the euphoria i get from it!! it's a lil odd writing ur own canon,,? but i kinda just go w/ the flow!

the au n, the story that i will start Eventually, revolves around infinite n starline (obvi) n it's honestly just ... the tl;dr is big healing momence n, what's this? uh oh sisters !!! they are falling in love 😳😳😳

uhhhh so infinite is an android, made by eggman. that's like, the most notable canon divergence here! super important context to have. i've got a whole big theory on the possibility of sega originally intending infinite to be an artificial being (which i explored in the works for my Other canon too), stemming from not only the scene in forces wherein infinite comments on sonic's "data", but a line of dialogue from tails in one of the last stages of the game where he Literally Says "so this is where eggman built infinite". that ... i mean. that contrasts w/ episode shadow pretty hard don't it?? would explain why that dlc was so rushed, n the comic too. ANYWAY adsfsfs um that's a seperate ramblepost. yeah!!!

they are also agender n use they/them (primarily) as well as he/him!! so i'll be refering to them w/ those pronouns!

after the war, infinite is taken in by the resistance n, instead of being dismantled, they're basically given a chance to rehabilitate themselves. it's agreed that they won't be reprogrammed, as despite the potential risks, it feels wrong to do so; like a violation of their free will, individuality n thinking. if infinite is to be a good person, it's not gonna be bc other ppl recreated their entire personality, it's gonna be bc it's what they themselves truly want. robot ethics idk man!! u can't tell me that sonic n co wouldn't offer this to infinite if they offered it to metal in IDW,,,, i am Standing By This!!!

it's, yknow, a bit rocky, at first. infinite has to really fight the urge to return to eggman (something they already tried once, before the resistance found them; they were cast out). it's a struggle against what they were built to do, against giving into unhealthy familiarity over facing a, while healthier, unfamiliarity. new faces, a new life, turning their back on their mission n creator, it's like, a lot.

they work for/with the sonic crew, rebuilding the world they tore down as deemed fitting justice, being closely monitored for a bit as a natural precaution. as it becomes apparent infinite truly no longer has any ambition to harm others (they don't have much ambition for anything, really), they're then granted more freedom, n start taking on more important missions!! it at least gives them something to do, keeps them occupied. they have issues with dissociation, unreality, whether they're truly a real person bc, well, android. feeling purposeless, n a lack of worth, especially. a need to prove themselves. heavy stuff. i'll kinda go into that a bit more in a sec. their work grounds them, if only temporarily.

n soooooo... IDW comic stuff happens. metal virus time. starline gets kicked out of the empire.

now, as the comics are ongoing, n as this is already an au, there's gonna be divergence, n i must admit i haven't planned out all that yet. there's a lot i have to consider!! infinite being w the resistance/restoration is a big game changer ... tho i Do believe that they were absent, likely on a far out mission during most of the chaos. eggman doesn't know abt them, nor does starline or anyone else other than the sonic crew; n some civilians that recognise them.

i'm not 100% sure of Exactly when it happens, but i think it's just after bad guys, that infinite is sent to locate n bring in starline. it doesn't prove too difficult. there's a whole, starline realising "oh fuck it's you???", some bickering n, the two don't hit it off right away. they're both kinda like. not mentally stable ddgddgdds,,,

so uh. starline ends up essentially going thru the same sorta shit as infinite. careful watch, rebuilding, all that jazz, making sure he can be trusted. he's like... very very lost, quite like infinite is. the world has kinda calmed down, in the meanwhile.

it's at this point i'm gonna go ahead n drop a bit of a ramble i subjected my friends to a while ago, to articulate the way i see the two, n their dynamic together!! i was considering making this it's own post a while ago!

analysing their characters a bit... let's look at starline. Like. so we have this, in bad guys, which SENT ME tbfh;

i feel like it's the moment that triggers starline onto the path he is rn canonically,,, he's clearly like. rly mad n bitter. the core of this?? he wants his work n his efforts to be acknowledged.

he's big angry. still kind of in denial at this stage. he has himself obsessed w/ the idea of making eggman see him as Worthy, that if he just tries hard enough, that'll happen. he's dependent on eggman's validation, n i mean, it's no surprise; he's followed him a Long Time by the sounds of it.

then in the recent issue, hold the fuck up, bc we got, This;

god. my god it's all comin together now homies. this???? this right here??? it is the CLASSIC "i have to do this to prove i'm strong n powerful n smart n worthy n should be respected please Give Me Acknowledgement" ..... n who else is Like That? can u see where im going w/ this?

i think most ppl are aware of infinite's character being extremely indicative of self worth/esteem issues n the need to prove themself, right?? the extreme adversity, repulsion, perhaps even fear toward the idea of being weak. the compulsion to prove otherwise, to show their strength, to become powerful, to conquer to make a point. their theme exudes this same energy as their behaviour in-game; an aggressive attitude, trying to assert themself, while if u rly listen...? the lyrics are actually really sad in places. it reeks of cover up, although composition wise, a v interesting thing to note is a lot of the more telling lyrics are prominent while some of the affirming ones are in the background. indicative of a desire to have their true feelings be heard but caught in a vicious loop?

okay okay that's yet Another different analysis. AHEM.

not to get deep on main (oh who the hell am i kidding that's the point of this entire thing) but i think starline has issues w/ his worth in a similar way to infinite. they both seem to have this need to Prove something, whether it's to others or themselves, n get caught in a toxic spiral of doing worse n worse things for Some kind of validation or acknowledgement. they'll go to really big lengths chasing that, n both of them ultimately sought validation in the wrong place n wrong way.

this is a big part of my starfinite dynamic,, n so, what happens, as they get closer n open up??? we have them BOTH realising together that they don't have to do fuck all to prove anything to anyone. they don't need to do all this to show they're strong n smart n worth something, not to anyone else OR themselves. they're enough as they are. they bond over that shared feeling that they have to do xyz, to prove themselves, n that desire to just finally be acknowledged n appreciated n help each other thru it. to help each other understand that other ppls approval, or lack thereof, doesn't define them, their strength, intelligence, and worthiness.

i feel like they have an interesting parallel between them in like... the above could be taken as a general analysis, but to go more in depth on this au specifically?? ...

starline followed eggman for presumably a long time n it no doubt left him feeling a heavy and deep regret for all that time wasted n spent on an unhealthy path. infinite kinda teaches him that what matters is what he's doing Now n also reminds him that if none of it happened, starline wouldn't have learnt a lot of the serious skills he has. n while starline still feels bad, he also realises himself that, he likely never would have crossed infinite's path if none of it happened. for that reason, he wouldn't take it back.

infinite has only been recently made, on the other hand. they haven't really existed long, yet, but so far their experiences haven't been very positive n it can be .... discouraging. starline sorta, shows infinite their limited experiences w/ the world are a very tiny fraction of what's out there, n things can absolutely change, yes, including for the better; that's the essence of life, a neverending, constant flow of change.

it's a big tale of moving on n letting go, honestly; made easier as they're doing it together. n as they heal n grow, well... these bitches gay. sfshshdgds like, ig that's putting it p bluntly but!! they start to trust each other, understand each other more. as they get to truly know who the other is, they both start developing The Feelings. they're both pretty oblivious n the reveal is totally unknown so far!! yeah, i know, bummer. i suck. boo. adafsfsds however i can say there will be lots of content in the making!! if that soothes the soul! i've got of ideas i hope to bring to life.

ofc there's still a lot of more specific things i haven't covered here so! if y'all want more juice hmu w/ more focused questions but !! this is the overview n i hope it was a decent read now that gave some uhhh! Cool Insight! yea!!! ✌

have finished chapter 7, and even tho i want to get ch 8 done as well (bc aerithhhhhh, i loooove you bby girl!!!!), i’m stopping here bc i’m too tired rn, and i want to be able to enjoy aerith to the fullest, and not have my delight be dulled by exhaustion XD

anyway, there’s not much to say on ch 7, as it was mostly just working your way through the reactor to get to the boss fight. but here are a few story related notes:

- avalanche......you guys, you literally made a public announcement that you were going to bomb reactor 5, y’all have no right to be shocked that shinra was lying in wait for you

- the way the remake handled the meeting with president shinra was a really cool update, bc it never did make much sense to me that this super important guy, who keeps monologuing about how avalanche isn’t worth his time....took the time out of his busy schedule to meet with them in person. so having it just be a hologram of him works a lot better, imo

- it’s interesting that president shinra also brought up mako degradation, as i’m pretty sure that crisis core introduced that concept. so i guess they really are going to be taking the compilation canon into account

(which again....just makes me so curious as to how nibelheim’s going to go down....but at the very least, the remake did do a good job at recreating tifa’s breakdown scene)

- also interesting that heidegger is planning on selling the public on the idea that avalanche is allying with wutai insurrectionists....on the one hand, it doesn’t make much sense to try to fire ppl up about a war with wutai, bc like......y’all already won that war?? and yuffie’s whole thing in ffvii is that she hates that her nation has been reduced to a glorified amusement park by shinra. but then again, i suppose this will work as a blow towards avalanche’s relatability, by making them out to be plants by those icky foreigners to destabilize the country for their revenge, or something

Cozy Noodles N' Rice

ok so I got this pin at a little thai restaurant in chicago when me and my friends went to oty chicago in January. i made a post about it at the time bc it's literally the best meal I've ever had. not only was the food amazing, but the atmosphere was great and the owner was super friendly and told us his whole backstory of coming to america. he collects a bunch of toys (esp toy robots, hence the logo) that completely cover the walls and ceiling. like... this place was literally amazing

im literally waiting for covid to be over so I can drive to chicago just to eat here again. i also highly recommend this place if you're ever visiting chicago in the future (and if u live in Chicago pls support them through covid!! it seems like they have a lot of loyal customers already but if they close down before I get to eat there again I'll never forgive y'all DHFKFJ) oh also they're lgbt friendly!!!

in which bowie ghostwrites a song, andi tries to go ghost on walker, and [insert third awful ghost pun here]: 

so bowie is actually ringing up customers for once at the music store that I figured rarely got business because helloo it’s always damn near empty but I guess today there was a surge of customers seeking out guitar picks and vinyls to show how Cultured and Unique they were for listening to the beatles or whomever. anyway jonah is on his guitar, doing as jonahs are wont to do, and bowie drops the bomb on him with “so yeah remember that music coach I told you about? she hates you. she quite frankly and literally wants you dead. she told me this herself. why didn’t you show up???” and jonah’s like “andi don’t fw me anymore :(” which isn’t rly an answer bc lbr here homeboy was ALREADY running late. you mean to tell me him staring at that painting took 4 whole minutes? nah. 

so anyway bowie’s like “hm let’s change that” bc manipulating your daughter’s emotions behind her back is cool I guess. bowie, totally not projecting in any way whatsoever, suggests that jonah write andi a song. jonah’s not about it tho. “I can’t talk about my feelings!” he says, which is true considering he only just started exhibiting negative emotions for the first time ever last week. bowie goes, “sure u can! what rhymes with back?” and jonah almost says “crack!” bc thats clearly what bowie’s been on for the past 2 episodes but lemme not.

anyway jump to andi @ the spoon and her boo thang who’s not rly her boo thang yet bc terri hates us is facetiming her again. “so andi, my wife whom I would die for, what’s up?” and andi replies “my best friend is moving away :(” so walker, the understanding king he is, goes “aw pick your head up queen, your crown’s falling :’)” and tells her to go be with her friends and something about a bubble machine idk but w/e we still stan.

buffy comes in w/ all the junk the ghc left at her house including a knockoff tamagotchi which seems kinda before andi’s time?? like she was supposedly 7 when she got it which would have been around 2010? but once again w/e we still stan. and buffy reads the recommendation letter cyrus’ mom wrote for him which seemed a tad incomplete. “I can’t believe my mom forgot to add three references, what a waste...” he sighs.

but walker comes in and andi’s like “tf didn’t u just tell me to drink bubble soap and be w/ my friends? what r u doing here?” and walker, the modern day da vinci, says “im here to draw ur friends as a going away present for your fellow queen, buffy” and buffy looks shooketh like hey if andi don’t want him go get him sis! 

so walker draws a louvre level artist rendering of the ghc and instead of appreciating the fact that walker could probably make an exact recreation of the mona lisa, andi’s like “*rolls eyes emoji* *sucks teeth emoji* now i got TWO of these little boys after me what the fuck -_-” but that doesn’t matter bc buffy and cyrus are LIVING for it.

“what??” he asks bowie who is too busy thinking about him performing “you girl” to bex when they were younger to even remember who jonah even is. jonah’s quite honestly shitting himself and wondering what tf he’s going to do. “being around you” is cute and all but it doesn’t go nearly as hard as andi deserves, especially if he now has to compete with artsy fartsy walker who could probably redo the sistine chapel all by himself if he rly wanted to. “hm..........how can one convey how truly deep in their feelings they are for the one they love?” jonah asks the universe, bc hey it seems to always work for bowie. 

the universe responds by sending a speeding car full of college kids blasting aubrey graham’s newest hit single right into the storefront window. 

“that’s it!” 

jonah’s handing out flyers at the spoon and cyrus literally melts into a puddle and I’m pretty sure this is the first nod to his crush on jonah since he came out to andi wow. andi’s like “since when do u do anything aside from throwing a plastic disc?” and jonah’s like “last week 🤗"

they go to the open mic and some girlie is throwing it DOWN w/ her accordion but bowie being the uncultured swine he is, pulls her off the stage. “anywayyyy here’s our final performance and the only reason we held this show tonight, give a big round of applause to jonah beck!”

jonah walks out with his guitar and an amazon copyrighted product shaped like a portable speaker. bowie’s like 🤨 bc this was supposed to be an acoustic performance tf does he need a backing track for? jonah sits down on his lil stool and clears his throat. “alexa play ‘in my feelings, jonah beck cover’”. the device plays a track consisting of jonah’s angelic backing vocals, and our boy begins to strum his guitar. he opens his mouth to croon...

“trap...trap bowie bowie”

bowie’s chiseled jaw drops to dirty ass music shop floor. “this is...not what I planned.”

“this stuff’s got me in my feelings...gotta be real w/ it...”

the entire audience has a collective heart attack. 

“an-di, do u luv me? r u riding? say you’ll never ever leave from beside me, cause I want ya and I need ya, and I’m down for u always...”

buffy and cyrus catch whiplash from turning so fast to face andi. “the song’s about YOU bitch!”

andi shakes her lil head. “puh-lease, no it’s not”

cyrus, doing his best not to cry, says “he literally just said ur name but go off”

andi’s in denial bc eww j*n*h b*ck? singing a song? for her? disgusting. but jonah keeps singing his little heart out and the lyrics are more and more damning as they go on.

“fuck he is singing about me...”

“fudge that netflix and chill what’s ur net-net-net worth?” jonah sings, hitting an impossible high note. queen of vocals. 

“you’re the only one I luv~~~” he serenades, serving us mariah carey level whisper notes. ariana is cancelled! our boy finishes the song, basking in the thought of how many careers he singlehandedly ended by performing at this small hole-in-the-wall music shop in bumfuck, utah. drake your days are numbered sis. 

everyone immediately deserts the shop en masse like did y’all see how fast they all left last episode?? damn. buffy and cyrus stay behind while andi is frozen sitting in her chair bc what the hell does one say to that. 

bowie goes up to jonah and is like “so um...that was...different.” and jonah responds “ikr! see, ‘being around you’ felt too old school, too...2002. idk why that year specifically, but idk it just sounds like it was written in 2002 for a completely different person, maybe even bex, but what do I know? im just your friendly neighborhood jonah beck.” bowie is shook. “anyway, do u think andi liked it?” bowie looks up to see his dorder who he’s more or less forgot about in favor of m*randa and demon child for the past couple of days walking in slow motion to the stage. how she was doing that was beyond him. “well, she looks like she’s about to cry so that’s either a very good thing or a very bad thing. ur on ur own now bud.” and he skidaddles to where bex is waiting. oh yeah bex was in this episode too I forgot. 

andi approaches jonah and he’s like “...so...song....you like?” and andi’s internally screaming bc everyone for the past several weeks has been pushing this relationship on her including jonah himself and now he just sung this song in front of all these ppl and now she pretty much HAS to kiss him so anyway ya she does.

I want to make more art and I want to sell prints and I want to make it a small business, but when I have a day off from work I don't end up making art. I started working on an art portfolio website for the 6th or 7th time and I think I have the right idea for it now, but it takes so much time and I get frustrated or have to walk away bc I get antsy sitting still for too long especially working on a laptop/screen, so anyway I didn't finish the website and I'm basically at the same point I was with the previous website but then I messed up something and couldn't reset it and didn't want to struggle to recreate it so I just. Made a new one???? So yeah I spend like 3 hours on that and ate way too much candy. I have a message on etsy about a custom order request that I'd like to take so I need to reply, set up the order, and then make the pride cat, none of which is very difficult or would take very long except idk if I know how to set up rhe custom order so I'm Stuck and am avoiding dealing with it, I have the other etsy order where my dad used super high quality instant glue to mend the crack, so now I just have to retouch all the paint and maybe seal the piece which wouldn't take long but I'm not doing it for some reason, and then I have 2 new orders for stickers which will be really easy to take care of bc I have some already printed of each afaik, so it shouldn't take much work or very long at all but again I'm not doing it because I really wanted to paint but I'm not doing that bc I'm not doing the other stuff and I'm not sure I want to work on any of the paintings I have started or if I want to start something new and I really also would love to fill a sketchbook with full page paintings like I've seen ppl do, but I'm not doing that unless I bind a new sketchbook of paper that can tolerate paint, first, and there's no time to do that rn....oh and I've been sitting on the die-cut stickers I ordered of the autisticat in black and holo, and the gay/rainbow and bi pride cats, instead of posting them for sale like I meant to ages ago. And I need to order a print of one of my paintings for this lady who paid me half of my price upfront so I need to order it but I'm dithering on where to order from and what kind of paper or print and the cost and whether I should order more than one print so I can sell copies in my etsy shop too, and then I really should have multiple copies of all or at least some of my prints in stock, but none of the ones I have listed are selling, so it's a gamble to order prints to have in stock instead of buying one or two at a time on demand, but maybe I just need to revamp my etsy a bit, and it would feel more real to have stuff in stock, but then I ought to have an actual space for my etsy stuff besides boxes and folders in my parents' dining room under the side table, like it'd be nice to have an office and shelving with the stuff on the shelves.... but that requires either using the guest room/steph's bedroom for an office too, but that's where my easel and paintings are and where my grandfather stays when he sleeps over once a week until he can replace his car, or it would require finishing the basement reno we have been crawling on for ages. It needs to have insulation and lights and actual ceilings and we would have to go through so much junk and find or make homes for a lot of stuff and throw out some things and it's never going to happen. And beyond anything else there's the issue of my brains executive dysfunction plus my job meaning I don't make art or work on etsy stuff when I do have time and I hardly ever have time and I could make time but I can't bc executive dysfunction, disinterest, lack of motivation... all I do is feel sucky and negative and frustrated at myself bc I always fail to do anything. Bc I don't feel like doing the things I want to do or the things I need to do because I'm not doing the other ones and on for forever.

Sigh.
